Doula Research: Caesareans Reduced By 60-80%

Women and their partners hire doulas for many reasons.

- Continuous support and care: Doulas are present during labour and birth in its entirety.

Well known by the mother and partner: The Doula was specifically chosen by the mother and has built a relationship with her before birth.

Is experienced and passionate about birth: Doulas are trained to provide emotional and physical support. By providing access to resources and information, doulas empower women and their partners to make informed decisions.

-It's rare that anyone else supporting a labouring woman can provide all three!

review of available doula studies found that doula support was more effective (fewer interventions, lower dissatisfaction and fewer complications) than births without doula support. The review concluded: “Continuous support during labour has clinically meaningful benefits for women and infants and no known harm. All women should have support throughout labour and birth.”

What the New Doula Research Says

Research recently published in the American Journal of Managed Care identified another great reason for hiring a doula.  Doula Support was linked to an almost  60% reduction in the likelihood of a woman giving birth by caesarean section. This figure rises to  80% for non-medically indicated caesarean sections.  read more here
