fertility + males

approx 16% or 1 in 6 couples experience infertility in Canada
often the focus on traditional fertility treatments gets skewed to the female, let's not forget that men play an equal role in conception.

Holistic fertility treatments focus on both man and woman together, not assuming the inability to conceive is due to the women (age or egg production). The health of the male is hugely important and studies are showing an increasing effect of the male on all aspects of conception: embryonic/foetal/infant health and pregnancy issues.

It takes between 80-116 days for a single sperm to be created, it is this 3-4 month period before ejaculation where sperm is susceptible to many threats before it even begins the journey to possible conception. Because sperm is smaller and more exposed to environmental factors, they are more vulnerable than the women's eggs.

The most common causes of male infertility (affecting some 66% of cases) is issue with production. The usual causes are factors such as:
*heat *pressure *infections *genetic problems * exposure to drugs *chemicals *radiation *age *testicular torsion* undescended testes *previous vasectomy

Pre-conception health is essential (as is for females) especially in the 3-4 months when sperm is being created. Lifestyle and diet can greatly impact their offspring. read full article here
